Writing Support

Writing Support Services (WSS) in the Faculty of Education are available throughout the academic year to both graduate and undergraduate students. WSS can assist students with any writing-related questions or concerns. WSS staff members focus on the process of writing with students, either individually or in small groups. At the undergraduate level, writing support ranges from help in conceptualizing assignments, to assistance with structure and content issues, to the development of strategies for editing, grammar and referencing. At the graduate level support is offered in these same areas as well as in the preparation of research proposals and research reports such as conference presentations, journal manuscripts, inquiry projects, major research papers, and the thesis or dissertation. Podcasts are being developed on a number of topics and will be available for viewing at any time during the academic year.

To make use of Writing Support Services, here ‘s what you can do:

  • Undergraduate Students can make appointments on-line for either Skype or e-mail consultations at the following e-mail address writingsupport@edu.yorku.ca.  In your preliminary e-mail, you need to identify the undergraduate site/program you are in and the nature of the consultation requested.  WSS staff will follow up for any additional information that will be needed.
  • Graduate Students can make individual one-hour appointments with WSS staff. All Fall 2011 appointment times have been booked.  For Winter 2012, an appointments calendar will be available.  Graduate students can click on the calendar to see the appointment times available and then e-mail smurphy@edu.yorku.ca to request an available appointment. Appointments are on a first-come first-serve basis.  Because of the demands on the service, only one appointment at a time can be made.
